Round 13 - Reserves Match Report
Hinterland 7.2-44 def by Ipswich 14.15-99
It’s another case of being unable to hang with teams in the second half as we were run over by Ipswich in a greasy slog at home. Again, I’ll cop the blame for opening my mouth 2 weeks ago about numbers, we have since struggled to get a full team on the park and it is more disappointing when you can’t field a full team for home games.
Nevertheless, our boys acquitted themselves well and were only 9 points at half time. Steve had kicked all of our goals in the half but could only add another 1 for the rest of the game as service from the midfield dried up markedly. Peter was again very good in defence having the ball on a string in the first quarter. He perhaps wasn’t as impressed with the opposition telling each other to ‘man up on the old bloke’ but I guess that comes with the territory. We were dealt a further blow with Keith out for the day after a nasty hit off the ball.
We clung on in the third with Brock kicking our sole goal for the quarter with Ipswich extending their lead with a further 3. Watto was good in his first game back from injury. He played all over the place but got through unscathed and earnt himself the Caspar cup in the process. His brother Sam played his first game for the club and acquitted himself in a run-with role. Willo likewise made his return and also battled hard all day, perhaps feeling the burn of missing so many weeks after the birth of his second child.
Mick did his usual thing in the middle though didn’t break any opposition bones this time, probably for the best. Josh has also hit a bit of a purple patch of form in the last few weeks and plays the role across half back exceptionally well. Fitness and numbers were our downfall again and we will continue to lose games if we can’t get guys on the track. I really feel for the blokes who turn up and play every week as they deserve more wins than they have been able to muster. The reserves competition, apart from perhaps Redcliffe, is not at a level that we aren’t able to compete. We simply run out of legs week after week. We have a few more coming back next week so hopefully we can turn it around and have a real crack at the last few games we have left.
Go Blues
